Northern Education and Wellbeing Trust
Tamaki Rugby League Incorporated was established in 2006 to operate the Tamaki team, one of two South Auckland teams in the national rugby league competition, the Bartercard Cup.
In 2007 New Zealand Rugby League team decided to change the format of the national competition. The end result of this was a new constitution and structure for the NZRL, with no formal place for Tamaki Rugby League Inc.
The league has considerable expertise in (elite) athlete development, and operates the football side of tamaki sports academy.
Ten years, even five years, ago the academy was self-funding through the free metal collection service. However, prices of scrap metal have fallen dramatically over the last ten years (steel is currently worth 20% of what is was immediately before the 2008 Beijing Olympics) and the free metal collection service operates at a small deficit each year. However, it remains a valuable source of both part-time work and work experience for our members.
TEWT co-ordinates the education and wellbeing services, including tutoring, provided by Tamaki Sports Academy.
